Othman Al Omeir
Othman Omeir is a Saudi-British businessman active in the media industry.
Born in 1950 in Riyadh, began his career in journalism almost 50 years ago. He started out as a junior sports correspondent for a Saudi newspaper. In 1980 he was named editor in chief of Al-Yaum newspaper and went on to hold various positions at the Al-Jazirah newspaper. He then became editor in chief of Al-Majalla magazine and Asharq Al-Awsat. In 2001, Al-Omeir set up Elaph.com, the Arab world’s first online newspaper, which quickly became one of the region’s leading news portals.
Al Omeir is known to have strong relationships with many Arab royals and leaders, among them Saudi Arabia’s late King Fahd Bin Abdulaziz and current king, Salman Bin Abdulaziz, as well as Morocco’s late King Hassan II and Jordan’s late King Hassan Ben Talal.
